Cảm biến tải trọng đo biến dạng là loại phổ biến nhất trong công nghiệp. Những cảm biến tải trọng này đặc biệt cứng, có giá trị cộng hưởng rất tốt và có xu hướng có tuổi thọ dài trong ứng dụng. Cảm biến tải trọng đo biến dạng hoạt động theo nguyên tắc máy đo biến dạng (điện trở phẳng) biến dạng khi vật liệu của cảm biến tải biến dạng thích hợp. Sự biến dạng của máy đo biến dạng làm thay đổi điện trở của nó một lượng tỷ lệ thuận với biến dạng. Sự thay đổi điện trở của máy đo biến dạng cung cấp sự thay đổi giá trị điện được hiệu chỉnh theo tải đặt trên cảm biến tải trọng.
